2017 show news

/2023-2/

by Mark Levitt

The trustees of the Emergency Service Show charitable trust would like to thank all the volunteers and exhibitors for their continued commitment in supporting our very popular event, held this year on Sunday 16 September.

This year was no exception, with what is believed to be record crowds attending the Show at Cotswold Airport to meet and greet their emergency services and associated charities.

The organising committee would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused to visitors and local residents by traffic congestion during the Show but this was due to circumstances beyond our control.

Despite payment and  a contract being in place to use Kemble Enterprise Park for Show access, egress and parking, the site’s facilities manager refused to allow us to use our Traffic Management Plan at the eleventh hour and placed physical barriers in our way.

This dramatically restricted our ability to bring the Show traffic off the main A429, and to implement our exit strategy. The traffic build-up was also compromised by the closure of the M4 between J17 and J18, and temporary traffic lights in Crudwell.

We do not yet know why the issues on site happened, and we can only apologise for the impact on our visitors and the local community. As a volunteer committee, we strive year on year to improve every aspect of the Show but unfortunately, on this occasion, we were powerless to resolve the situation despite making every effort to find a solution at the time.

by Mark Levitt

Come and meet Responder Bill and the rest of the Wessex 4×4 Team at ESS 2018.

Wessex 4×4 Response is a charity made up of volunteers that can offer a variety of services to Local Authorities, Emergency Services and other Volunteer Agencies.
Supporting within the areas covered by the Police Forces of Avon & Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire

Principally this is providing reliable transport in times of major emergencies and severe weather (snow & ice, gales, heavy rain and floods).

This can be to transport essential personnel or supplies to areas that would be hard or impossible to reach in normal vehicles, and also in support of emergency rest center’s set up by local authorities.

We can also provide assistance when an emergency response organisation’s own vehicle assets have been depleted by the demands made on them.

Come And Support “Hope For Tomorrow ” At ESS 2018

by Mark Levitt

Hope for Tomorrow is a dedicated charity, bringing cancer care closer to patients’ homes via our Mobile Cancer Care Units (MCCUs).

As a cancer charity, we understand that time is a crucial factor for patients, and in 2007 we launched the world’s first ever Mobile Cancer Care Unit (previously Mobile Chemotherapy Unit) to bring vital cancer care closer to patients, enabling them to spend more time with family, friends and loved ones.

We develop, build, provide and maintain MCCUs to support patients who are going through Chemotherapy by alleviating the stresses and strains of travelling for appointments, along with reducing hospital waiting times.

We work in a unique partnership with the NHS helping to ease capacity challenges at hospital trusts. We now have 10 MCCUs operational in Gloucestershire, Somerset, South Wiltshire, Hampshire, East Kent, Lincolnshire, Cornwall, West Suffolk, East Essex and London/ Surrey, with two reserve MCCUs in place to ensure continuity of service during the maintenance schedule. We also provide a Nurses Support Vehicle with each MCCU, which allows the nursing team to travel to and from the daily treatment locations.

Since the launch of the first Mobile Cancer Care Unit (previously Mobile Chemotherapy Unit) in 2007, the charity has saved patients a total of over 2,000,000 miles and over 170,000 hours of travel and waiting time.

The charity won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise – Innovation, in 2016. The Award is the UK’s highest accolade for business success, and was made in recognition of our achievements since the Founder, Christine Mills MBE, set up Hope for Tomorrow in 2003.

NEW FOR 2018- THE ROCKETS!!

by Mark Levitt

The Rockets Children’s Motorcycle Display Team

Combining adrenaline-fuelled stunt action, this talented troupe of young boys & girls will astound you with their airborne stunts & formation riding performance. Featuring their  very own club mascot “Rocket” the bear bringing this show alive with the audience.

Showcasing skills & ability the courage of these children will undoubtedly leave the crowds wowed.

If that’s not enough don’t worry they  know the importance of fun family entertainment & laughter so have plenty of this too!

Who Are The Rockets

They  are a small but talented enthusiastic group of 5-16 year old children. The  club is run by parents of the riders and every rider has the opportunity to excel in what they are good at. They  pride ourselves in being an inclusive club and having an eye for any particular skill a child may display, which is why they  are so successful as they  are open minded and will try and utilise these skills and passion to deliver an ever changing but spectacular performance with no two displays being the same.

The children have significant experience of riding and performing for many years both individually and collectively. Throughout this time they have been privileged to perform at Hyde Park for the Queens Jubilee, Silverstone, Asda’s ”on your marks” , 999 Emergency Service Day to name just a few. Furthermore, given the immense opportunity to train alongside & perform with the incredibly world famous “White Helmets”!

Their success hasn’t come without hard work & commitment, but when you are as dedicated as these young boys and girls, the passion shines through but don’t take our word for it come and see for yourself at the Emergency Services Show!
